Pork Payment
We have pork available again this year -- sharing with those who have expressed interest! A pig from our farm gets 30-60% of its diet from the extras of our vegetable operation, real food scraps and slops, and is raised out in the fresh air and sunshine, snow and MUD, of course. Oh, and the pigs got lots of love, hugs, ear scratches and belly rubs, too. :) Pastured pork has been found to have 300% more vitamin E and 74% more selenium than conventional pork. Our pork is at once incredibly lean and deliciously rich.
This year, rather than sell packages, which is a lot of work and management on my end, we will sell half hogs (we only have 3 half hogs to sell). We are charging $5.50/lb hang weight + fees from the processor for curing, seasoning, linking etc. From your half hog you will get bacon, roasts, pork chops, sweet italian sausage, hams, ribs, etc! I encourage families to go together to purchase and then split the meat! I'm following the pricing of Jodar Farm, a local pork producer to see if I can actually cover my costs this year. Feed has gone up by 1/3 as have other farm costs so I want to see if folks can pay a fair price before getting the next round of piglets. Also understand that when you buy our pork, you also help support our "pig to love", who were Rosie and Red... and now Red. We keep one pig for the children to bond with that we do not send to market. That is important to us as well.
