Drums will be provided for each participant, though you are encouraged to bring your djembe if you have one. Together, we will learn foundational drumming techniques and explore a traditional West African rhythm as an ensemble.
By the end of this three-hour workshop, you will have been introduced to a complete rhythm arrangement, learned the different drumming parts, and experienced the power of playing and singing together in community.

About the instructor, Dee Desnoyers:
Dee Desnoyers has been studying West African drumming since 2006 and is passionate about building connection, confidence, and community through rhythm. She leads weekly West African drum classes in Fort Collins and Loveland, and hosts regional workshops taught by master teachers from Guinea, West Africa. On Sunday afternoons you’ll find Dee drumming and dancing with the Fort Collins African Drum and Dance Collective, a local non-profit that offers inclusive community-focused workshops with master African drum and dance artists and culture bearers.
When she’s not playing West African music, you will find her playing show tunes on her drum set, as she also contributes to musical theatre productions throughout Colorado.
