Laughing Buck Farm Garden

Join us in the garden!

Growing Roots is a weekly, farm-based gardening program for homeschool children, held at Laughing Buck Farm. This program is rooted in the belief that children develop best when they are trusted with real work, given time in nature, and supported as their whole selves.

Through seasonal gardening, farm tasks, and nature-based learning, children build practical skills while also developing confidence, emotional regulation, and a sense of belonging. The program is especially supportive for neurodivergent children, offering a calm, predictable rhythm and a relationship-centered approach rather than pressure or performance.

What kids learn:

  • Planting, watering, and caring for garden plants

  • Seasonal rhythms and changes on the farm

  • Identifying and caring for plants, including managing weeds and garden pests

  • Using companion planting to help plants thrive together

  • Responsibility, patience, and confidence

  • Teamwork and building community

  • Observation, problem-solving, and learning from nature

  • Connection with the outdoors and understanding the ecosystem

Growing Roots is designed for homeschool children who thrive with hands-on, nature-based learning. It’s especially supportive for neurodivergent kids, children who need time and space to explore at their own pace, and those who benefit from calm, consistent rhythms. This program welcomes all children who are curious about nature, eager to get their hands in the dirt, and ready to grow confidence, skills, and connection in a safe, nurturing environment.

 Our Approach

Our approach is relationship-centered, child-led, slow, and seasonal. We focus on learning through doing, building trust, and connecting children to the land, the farm, and each other. Children are encouraged to explore, make mistakes, problem-solve, and discover their own strengths—all while being supported and guided in ways that honor their unique needs.

Growth here, like in the garden, happens in its own time, with patience, care, and curiosity at the center of everything we do.

The garden at Laughing Buck Farm is a living classroom, one shaped by seasons, soil, weather, and years of relationship with the land. For over a decade, this garden has been a place where children learn by doing: planting seeds, tending beds, harvesting food, and discovering what it means to care for something beyond themselves.

Rooted in slow rhythms and hands-on work, the garden offers space for curiosity, movement, and connection. It is especially supportive for children who thrive outside of traditional learning environments, offering room to explore, regulate, and engage at their own pace. Here, learning happens naturally through hands-in-the-dirt, shared responsibility, and time spent outdoors.
