Thank you, Om Kai Yoga, for leading us so beautifully.

We did it! Friends have been sending links for weeks now, telling me I should host goat yoga. So when our dairy goat April had spring babies it was a possibility. Why goat yoga, you ask? For the frolicking energy, for the cuteness, for the community, for the soft cuddles, for the love of goats! We have more classes coming up so stay tuned and hope to see you in the hay barn! Thank you, Om Kai Yoga, for leading us so beautifully. And thank you, Jesy D Photography, for capturing the moments. Do we have any 4H kids or adults out there? 4H was a big part of my childhood growing up in Ohio and I am thrilled to help lead a 4H group here at Laughing Buck Farm. The hands-on approach to learning also works so well with our homeschool daytime farm class. I love how the kids are now able to catch, halter and lead their horses safely and comfortably these days. Springtime means vaccinations and deworming so we scheduled our vet, Dr. Laura Brinton of Adobe Equine, to come out during class to demonstrate. We are also learning about horse breeds, parts of the horse and saddle and horse markings. We'll get more practice grooming and cleaning tack next week. Ah, spring!
I've gathered some online resources for learning parts of the horse, markings, breeds and parts of the saddle for kids who want to practice at home. Check it out and let me know in the comments if you have any to add to my list. I love this so much so as I'm poring over some of my favorite links and ideas, I thought I'd share them here. But first, a few photos from years gone by. Scroll down for the links. Do you have any other ideas? Find us on Facebook and Instagram and post your finished products. We'll be posting ours next week. Oh, and I'll also be sharing about our new baby goats so stay tuned! Sarah has been involved in Laughing Buck Farm for years, starting when her girls were attending Farm School and she was a co-teacher. She's had some cool adventures and I'm glad she's back in Colorado and has found her way back to the farm. Can't wait to see what 2017 holds for our new garden team. Welcome, Sarah!
From Sarah: "Being able to plant a seed, care for it, and watch it grow into something that can nourish my family has to be one of the most satisfying experiences. (It is similar to parenthood, although perhaps slightly more predictable!) My early professional and educational background was early child development, Early Intervention and family support. I have always loved working with children. I am inspired by their passion, creativity, hope, and confidence. Since first becoming a mother eight years ago, I have been pursuing the wisdom and wonder of medicinal herbs. And now, as a family herbalist, I am passionate about connecting people with plants. A garden is such a beautiful metaphor for children, and bringing the two together is a magical combination. I have grown food and herbs in home and community gardens, and I am so happy to be growing at Laughing Buck Farm in 2017 (pun intended)." I love seeing the world through an artist's eyes. Thank you so much, Anna! Check out her work at Smiling Eyes Photography (https://www.facebook.com/smilingeyesphotofortcollins/)
What I love most about my days are the relationships that grow. In the daily routine, it's my relationships with the horses, pigs, goats, chickens (... garden, trees, soil, the list goes on) but in the farm classes it's the community we build with these small farmers that I love like my own. And then there are the teachers. I love to see how they nurture and play, teach and learn with these kiddos. We see quite a bit of transition with our teachers as beautiful opportunities open up for them. We had to say goodbye to Farmer Kristen as she started an exchange program in France, to Farmer Anna as she is leading a group of Girl Scouts on a trip in India. Farmer Kate took a full time position in the PSD schools. Exciting stuff. Hard to say goodbye. And then we get to say hello to new farmers. Meet Farmer Taylor. Here's what she shared: "Hi there I'm Taylor! I am an education student at Colorado State University. I grew up in Durango Colorado hunting, camping, hiking and playing in the river. I love critters. I have raised pigs for the local county fair and I like collecting eggs from the family chickens while my handsome cat Jake plays with the hens. I enjoy interacting with children and being in the outdoors. Through my experiences I have found a passion for education. Learning by doing is part of my educational philosophy and being a Farm School instructor allows me to demonstrates this. Becoming a part of the Laughing Buck Farm family has brought joy to my life and I can't wait to share new farm experiences with you." Farmer Taylor, we are so glad to have here at Laughing Buck Farm. You can find the bio for Taylor and our other Farm School teachers here: http://www.laughingbuckfarm.com/meet-our-teachers.html Thanks to Smiling Eyes Photography for the photos: smilingeyesphotography.com
Well here I go. Born from a desire to share, to connect and remember, I will occasionally share farm photos, favorite books, captured moments, community happenings, recipe and garden ideas and maybe even a deal or two.
But not now. :) Because one of the beautiful things about running my own business is the freedom NOT to jump into the fray of this Post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy. But stay tuned. And in the meantime please know that I deeply appreciate all that you do to support this endeavor to love, nurture and support the growth of community and small farmers here at Laughing Buck Farm. Blessings Abound, Farmer Rosemary |
